THE PHENOMENON CALLED “THE LAS VEGAS ADVISOR”; WHAT HAS IT PROVIDED FOR YOU? I took the liberty of using the word “PHENOMENON” because I can’t imagine that Anthony Curtis could have known how this creation of his would affect a select group of like minded individuals in so many ways any more than Orville and Wilbur could have envisioned a stealth fighter or space shuttle developing from their historic first flight. What has the “Las Vegas Advisor” provided to you BEYOND what you expected? Pixley Radio Announcer: “The grand prize is a trip to beautiful Las Vegas……..Illinois. HAPPY NEW YEAR I ask this on the new member portion of the forum to give confidence to others to contribute or ask at will. This is an amazing website and the CONTRIBUTION of the members is AWESOME. I first joined the LVA because it looked like a pretty good compilation of information about a city I wanted to visit AND…. there were Coupons. For me, over the years it has become much more than just a place to uncover the best deals in Las Vegas. There have been postings on births, deaths and marriages. Posts come from members celebrating the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. On occasion there is that flamer that needs to receive a “self basted tin foil wrapped bird”,but they don't seem to stick around too long. The majority of posters are very knowledgeable on a myriad of topics that extend beyond Las Vegas, Nevada and Gambling. A lot of members write eloquent responses and others have immeasurable wit. However you view yourselves as a current or potential contributor the most important thing is to not feel so intimidated that you do not ask or respond. Sometimes one just has something on their mind and just needs to tell someone. I and many others have found that opportunity within the Las Vegas Advisor forum. I do not participate in any other internet discussion groups, so I can’t give comparison but I have found a home here and cyber family of sorts. I received valuable information beyond the POV and I have made many friends on this forum, some who I have met, some I hope to meet and others I may never meet. I thank Anthony for the concept and environment and the members for their participation. I wish everyone a wonderful 2004. i joined for the coupons. immediately upon joining, i read the messageboards. through them i discovered wagerworks and we all remember how wonderful that was. i have saved hundreds of dollars with coupons and this year i will keep the tally going. and how could i ever forget the best tool ive gotten from this site? travelaxe. i LOVE travelaxe. as a low roller i do not get comped rooms. travelaxe has gotten me some really great prices, not even just in vegas but in atlantic city, boston and reno. if they were to make buttons that said "i heart travelaxe" id sport them. compared to other sites, this one seems to be the best place to pose your questions. on other boards, you can ask questions and get nothing more than sarcastic replies. on these boards, you will always get an answer, no matter how many times the same question has been asked. i think its because since we 'pay' for this site, we only have truly vegas-obsessed people who would love to have the opportunity to type out a response to a common question, simply because by doing so, we get to talk about vegas. my next vegas trip isnt until may but ive already gone through the dining board and read every thread looking for ideas of new restaurants to try. i have a few picked out and im ready to go. this board is definitely full of more information that many other boards. t-135 ![]() vegas and hotel room photos here: vegas room photos |

What has it provided? 1. Several really good friendships. 2. A daily connection with Las Vegas, the feeling of being there when I can't be there. 3. Different perspectives on VP and other games, interest in games I haven't played (tables). 4. A million laughs. Wonderful stories. Sympathy. 5. Better understanding of the whole of Las Vegas, reasons people like the Strip or Downtown or North Las Vegas or other touring zones, what's happening everywhere. 6. Real human interaction. So unusual, so valuable. 7. Lessons on effective communication with casino executives, hosts, each other. 8. "Much more." Candy |

My "home" casino, Casino Royale, which I plug shamelessly here is very easy to get comped rooms from. Stop by there and pick up the great coupons available to first timer out of state residents if nothing else. On the strip, between Venetian and Harrah's across the street from the Mirage. If you have a car, they have a "secret" parking lot right behind the casino, like parking at a 7-11. I love that also!!!

Well, My reply might be more innocent than some of you since I am a newbie here.....being a member for about a week and without my POV yet! My first trip to LV was for a trade show. It was cheaper for me to go to LV for a week than to a closer show on the east coast for a couple of days! I was in need of a vacation after 6 or 7 days a week of self-employment for 6 or 7 years; it was time! The trip was an a double success. I learned so much that I have attended every year since then at the Las Vegas show (it is one of several but the largest each year). Furthermore, I was able to relax without a schedule, car, calls.....free to sleep til I was rested, eat when I was hungry and persue what ever interested me. I was so enthusiastic about LV that I decided to write a series of tips for others wanting to attend a trade show on how to save money and fun things to do in a chat room I founded for others in my profession. Someone replied that I was obviously obsessed with Las Vegas and if I didn't smoke, drink or gamble than I must be chasing women there! I have seen how nasty some people can be in other chat rooms and that seems to be absent here, thank goodness. For the record, I do not chase women in Las Vegas.....I have all the woman I need at home (she won't fly)and my last 2 trips to LV were with 2 of my 3 teenagers. It is true I don't smoke, I average 2 or 3 drinks a trip at that, and I only play slots a bit if the mood strikes me. So what the hell is there in LV for me? A lot. I can get on the plane after 14" of snow fell and get off and not have to walk in ice or snow for a week. Although the Las Vegas residents are freezing, I can run around in a shirt when it's 60-65 (summer in New Hampsha). I can stay in a clean comfortable room in one of a dozen hotels for a week cheaper than someone can here for 2 nights. I can eat a steak dinner complete here for less than I can buy the meat for at home. And within a few miles or a few minutes I can attend great sporting events, visit museums, view great art, see top notch shows and headliners, and so much more. If that was not enough, for fun in between trips, I can research online for new things to see and do. That is not only a lot of fun, but has saved me time and money. Last year I thought about joining LVA but decided to rely on the free publications and hand out coupons when I took my youngest son in february. There just were no coupons around for some reason and it was so bad that I had to join the slot club at the Imperial Palace....just to get a free admission to the auto museum!!! It cost me a lot and I should have known better. I take the last of my kids this april after my feb. trip but I will be well prepared. I have my airfare but am waiting for the POV before booking my hotel. I will plan my meals and shows so that I can take advantage of 2 for 1 meals as I show him the sights and shows in LV. Folks here and at Travel2Vegas have been so generous in sharing their experiences, tips and opinions that I have had lots of fun, saved plenty and hope to reciprocate by sharing my knowledge with others as well. So I want to thank everyone, congratulate everyone and I agree that since this is not a free site, perhaps for that reason, it is a abit different than all other Las Vegas message boards. In any event, I am proud to be with others of similar interests. Jimbo |

When we first signed up, I expected the POV and miscellaneous tidbits of information which would be published in the monthly newsletter. Boy, did we get more than we bargained for! Once I got on the boards and started asking questions, I got an education about Vegas that I could not have gotten without years of experience traveling there. I read as many archives as I could; kept up with postings of topics of interest (all of them!) and really felt that I could find my way around the city by the time we made our first trip. We saved so much money, learned the ins and outs of comps, knew where to go and where to avoid, and met some fellow LVA'ers at a members meet. I felt like a seasoned veteran on our first trip! In 44 days we will be making our fifth trip in 4 years, and just with the wealth of information I learned over the last year, I still feel like we're just hitting the tip of the iceberg! There's folks on here who might live near you or in the same state, and we found out about great deals (airlines, car rentals) that we would not have otherwise known about if it weren't for these boards. Casino etiquette, gaming strategy and traveling tips that you just can't find in books are learned from all these wonderful people. For the $50 that we pay each year, I feel we gain priceless knowledge. The coupons, which we felt were the only reason to join, are just the proverbial icing on the cake. The LVA staff are the unsung heroes that aren't given enough credit for their behind the scenes labor. Last year, I had a misprinted POV and one of the staff went out of their way to make sure we had a replacement in time for our trip to LV. Anthony and the gang sure have a great thing going here, and all the LVA members can pat themselves on the back for making it as great as it is, too. Wow, I sound like I'm getting kickbacks for this, huh? I guess I can't say enough good things. Our friends will be coming to Vegas with us next year and we REQUIRED them to get the subscription so they are ready for their virgin trip. Enjoy your new membership! We're glad you're here! I've been an LVA member for about six months and, in spite of having had a computer for years, I never posted on a message board or entered a chat room before. I've mentioned in the past that the first time I logged on, I received answers/confirmations ect.. concerning 3 or 4 Vegas matters that had been on my mind. I knew right away that I was really on to something. I have not yet forged the type of relationships on the boards that some of y'all have, but I have had personal contact with 3 or 4 people and that has gone well. In general, I am so impressed with the knowledge of the people on these boards but, above that, the helpfulness, humor, giving spirits and obvious affection (perhaps love) you have for each other. As Candy alluded to, I think many of us feel that our worst day in Vegas is right up there with our best days anywhere else and, when we are between trips, it is so great to get that injection of "Viva" that always results from a visit to these boards. To the newbies, don't be afraid to ask a dumb question. After 40+ Vegas trips I still come up with dumb questions. Anything you want to know will be addressed with insight and you won't be put down. The coupons are great. I use a few of them, but I really don't tear through the book. I'm glad they are there to defray the cost of my membership, but I would gladly subscribe without them. 1) Knowledge- Though I visited Vegas regularly for over 20 years, then even lived there for 9, my Las Vegas education really didn't start until I read Jean's book " The Frugal Gambler". Then, others on the board offered information that expanded on what I learn from Jean. All in all, it's saved me thousands of dollars. 2) Satisfaction- of being able to offer insights and information from my own exoeriences that have helped others. Funny, I always feel that I've gotten more from that type of exchange than I feel that I've given. 3) "Virtual Friends"- People that I have never actually met, but feel that I know through their posts here. People that I would love to be able to meet, and actually have as real friends. I've only been able to make 1 meet so far, as time has frequently been an issue on many of my trips over the past year- But If things work out, and I get to move back THIS year (God I love saying that now rather than NEXT year), I hope to be able to make a few more. 1. I agree that the biggest thing I have gotten from these oards is a community of friends with interests similar to mine. I have enjoyed meeting folks at LVA meets. 2. Real value-packed coupons. Okay, so I only used the Golden Gate Blackjack coupon last year. I think I made $600 in my hour of GGBJ and also discovered a very favorable Flip-It machine. 3. I have explored new areas of Las Vegas I never would have tried on my own (Sunset Station, MSS, Suncoast). 4. I have learned how to get comps for playing Las Vegas the way I like to play it. 5. I have had something in common with folks I've met from my own area. I played video keno for hours next to an LVA-er from Illinois and another local member drove over to my house to deliver my hard copy of LVA, which had been stuck inside his copy delivered by the mailman. 6. Finally, I've gotten a lot of awfully good laughs from the wit and wisdom of fellow LVA-ers. Connie from Iowa City |

WOW! Great thread Berferd. The Las Vegas Advisor has launched me from asking Ken (vivalv) what a casino coffee shop was to writing an article for a major gambling newsletter in Tunica. I've learned so much in the past 11 months of being an LVA member. From political debates to Jerry's rants about a downgrade in a VP machine, I feel I've gotten a well-rounded ecucation in gambling, Las Vegas, and life! Preston from Nashville, version 2.1 |

LVA offers a very positive environment for teaching and learning. The opportunity to be helpful to those who appreciate it is a big motivator for me. That is the part of teaching I miss the most. It feels the best when one can follow an individual's progress and can see that person take over the teaching task with others. That is easier to do in a classroom but is also possible to some extent here. As for exchange of ideas, I think we could do better, but that limitation is probably the fault of the medium as much as anything else. When too many people with too many perspectives jump into a thread, progress along a single line of thought is difficult. Many is the time that I wished to share coffee or a beer with from one to four others, as with my colleagues at work, and explore an idea in full. Maybe at a member meet someday...... |

I've stated this before in a post, but I'll say it again. I've been teaching for 28 years and just loved it (for 26 of those years). Getting ready to retire from a job that I no longer love and being able to log on to LVA during my free time makes it all much more bearable. T-110 school days to retirement!! I love the wit, the knowledge, and even the nasty arguments that sometimes pop up. I've only been a member since October, but can't think of spending a day without logging in. Haven't received a POV yet, but don't think that I'll use it much since we get more free hotel room offers from Vegas than we could ever use, and they usually come with food included. But the interaction of the members is worth much more than the price of membership. Heck, it's a drop in the bucket compared to what we spend on gambling each year. Another benefit of LVA is that it's an outlet for my lousy puns. Here I can post and log off as opposed to saying these things in person where my wife, friends or relatives will say "just shut-up already!" I also appreciate the great help I've gotten from San Diegoans for my upcoming trip to Harrrah's Rincon, and am looking forward to my first members meet when we're in Vegas during Valentines Week. It also gave me an outlet to vent my anger about Harrah's and "Total Rewards II". Whether you agree or disagree, at least you let me know. Harrah's doesn't even respond to me. "So why are you going to Rincon Stupid!" - figured I'd ask it before you did. Well, the trip (3 nights) is free and it will give me a chance to see San Diego. Maybe I'll finally convince the wife to move out west. Again, I'd like to thank all of you people for you knowledge, input, and wit. I guess I should also thank Anthony Curtis for creating the site in the first place. Stroke of genius. Larry from Tenafly NJ |

I first signed up for the coupons before a trip I was taking.....then I saw that there was something called a "members forum". What's this? I was excited to see all the nice responses and the huge amount of info available here. Now, after being a member for 2 years, I value the friendships I have made here. Some of you I have not met yet, but I will! The others that I have met are wonderful. The people on these boards make it what it is....a great place to interact with other Las Vegas lovers and learn more about our favorite city. Besides, where else can you learn not only about Vegas, but about tin foil, girl scout cookies and the most important...THE ENCHILDA! You all are great! Big Kudos to Anthony and the gang. As so many others did, I originally signed up for the coupons. Now, into my third year here, I consider my access to these boards to be worth much, much more than all of the coupons combined. I've only been to one member meet. The folks I met there were all marvelously friendly, generous, fun to talk to, and those who accompanied me on the ill-fated after-meet craps fest didn't murder me, so it proves they have a kind and forgiving nature, as well :-) I look forward to meeting many more of you in the future. Of course, through conversing here, I feel as though I've met many more of you than I actually have. This is truly a special meeting place. This is the only board I regularly visit or post on. Others I have been to have had nowhere near the level of intelligent and humorous discourse. I treasure the opportunity to post my silly questions and read the always-more-than-expected answers. Other things I love about LVA? In no particular order... *! Enchilda Girl Scout Cookies Not that there's anything wrong with that... Tommywishbone and RAMPER - Que Es Mas Macho? The fact that we are generally self-policing is nice. Some truly fine writers post here. I've had enough laughs to more than make the cost worthwhile. Where else can you discuss religion and/or politics and not end up in a total flameout? We really do play nice, for the most part. If you say you twice voted for Bill Clinton because you believe him to be the reincarnation of Woden, you'll likely receive less flak than if you say you once spent an hour playing a 6/5 JOB machine :-) Belonging has added so much more enjoyment to watching Las Vegas shows on the Travel Channel. Donna and I now play drinking games involving Anthony Curtis sightings. I could go on and on and on (What's that? I already have?) but I'll stop now and just say it is probably the best buy I make in any year. Jim (Suldog) "You make each day special by just your being you. Great thread. I guess at first my main reason was the coupon book and monthly newsletter. I joined before the web and now I am a web only member. The “real” information I receive from other members is priceless. I average 3 trips a year and everyone I go with always marvels at the amount of knowledge I found from my various “sources”! I have had conversation with some Vegas locals that did not have the info I did from this board. It also helps me with my fix between trips. I am an anal planner and the web site and tools help me keep up with that side of myself. Lastly, the money I have saved from the coupons, to rental codes, to cheap dinners, to great off strip places to visit has more than paid for my membership. I have to agree with another poster, on our last trip, the Ellis Island coupons and Golden Gate coupons paid from my membership this year. My sisters would have never set foot in Ellis Island if I did not drag them there, now, they can hardly wait to go back! The 3 of us had the Porter house special along with a few match plays and some luck, Ellis Island paid us $22 to have dinner, and that was with the tip to a very charming waitress. To all who work on the LVA and its members, please keep up the good work and positive information. You can count me in for another year. Chuck Buffalo, NY Go Bills.. Never Mind! After taking a few trips to Atlantic City we got interested in learning about Las Vegas. I got a subscription to the LVA for my Birthday in 1996 and have been a member ever since. Only missed visiting our favorite city one year since then. Some years we had multi. trips and using the information and coupons have saved money each trip. The LVA helps us to not miss something of interest during the timeframe of our trip. Along with the newsletter, this forum, Jean's books,Max Rubin's Comp City and the Official Guide to Las Vegas we consider ourselves savy consumers when in "Sin City". Oh! I forgot to mention the software, both Winpoker and Frugal VP, plus Bob Dancer's booklets and cheat sheets. How long have you been a member? Everything on these message boards is beyond what I expected when I subscribed. I signed on for the good coupon book, the Top Ten lists, and to know about any major changes (i.e.: new casinos, restaurants, or shows). I ended up learning about great books to read, freebies to be found, how to gamble when you have the edge or at least how to reduce the house edge, what the rooms and service is like at almost any hotel that I have even considered staying in, how to find the best rental car deal, where to find the best paying video poker machines, and much much more. All that and the LVA also made my "nose" several inches longer. (and that's not a Pinocchio reference, in case anyone missed that thread!) I jumped on board last March for info to Mecca - and found all these threads. Wow ! - what a font of information , opinions and good natured chuckles. I landed into a fraterinity party where the main subject was Las Vegas and Gambling . I call it "the fray" and dove in feet first. I have been stared at for laughing out loud reading these threads - they are priceless . I've learned so much - you know that saying about learning from other people's mistakes? I can ask a question and tens of folk w/ actual experience will tell me how they liked it/how the rooms were/if I can get a coffee pot/how the Host treated them/what they liked and disliked/etc. Then I get to make up my own mind. How great is that? I've made friends and I've made peace w/ other LVAers that slammed me when I gave out my own opinions on areas other than the Strip. Let's just say that Vegas is a town big enough for all of us. Oh , and knowing I'm not the only one who's worn tinfoil on my head at the World Class Resort known as The Bellagio. I don't feel so alone anymore, thank you LVA ! It's still the knowledge and humor that brings me back daily to LVA. The coupons are a nice perk but it's the threads I cherish. Is this a situation where I renounce any form of financial compensation from or affiliation with Anthony Curtis’, Las Vegas Advisor, Huntington Press or any of their holdings? I actually developed this thread as I browsed the posts and realized what I enjoy about the LVA and wanted to see if others felt the same. I was a little bummed out because we had to cancel our holiday Las Vegas trip so I could stay home and play “Holdem” with a surgeon, anesthesiologist and assorted surgical nurses. I needed a book about being a “Frugal Patient” in the worst way. I did get some comps; hospital non-slip socks, a box of surgical cotton and free parking. I am pleased to see that so many others responded with enough vigor to prompt a possible conveyance to nonmembers to catch a glimpse of what goes on here. The comments are so commendable that I hope they are believable. They sound too good to be true but they are honest representations of everyday posts. I was a little disappointed that no one caught the innuendo about Anthony and the Wright Brothers. I thought someone would catch the subtle connection to “Curtiss-Wright”. A young man named Glenn Curtiss beat Orville and Wilbur at their own game in 1909 by developing a flying machine and competing against them in the first International Aviation Meet in Rheims, France. Could there be a Curtis-Wynn in the future? Steve did do a survey on name recognition. Pixley Radio Announcer: “The grand prize is a trip to beautiful Las Vegas……..Illinois. George, I love the membership but by now you ought to know it's the obvious jokes/references that get attention. I can't tell you how many jokes I have made on this board that received no response. I like to think that somewhere, somebody smiled. You should, too. Great thread. But I do wonder what kind of "comps" Anthony is prepared to offer in return for making commercial use of our testimonials. C'mon, Anthony. You know how this frugal group likes freebies. |

Well, seems at this point we will just be restating the obvious, but what the heck. Originally we joined LVA for the monthly newletter, coupons and information. We wandered over onto these boards and suddenly the price of admission was meaningless. Some of the things we enjoy: Unbiased opinions. We ask about a property, show, restaurant or what have you and instantly we get reviews from folks with no obvious agenda. They share openly and honestly and most importantly the information is current. No matter how new a guide book is, it is usually somewhat out of date when published. Here the normal reply begins "Well, when we were there last week..." Meeting other members. Whether its one of the many member meets or an informal get together which just another couple from on here this has been one of the highlights. It simply adds to the adventure that is Vegas. It also motivates us to investigate areas we might not have otherwise. We kept putting off a trip downtown until the member meet at MSS. We had a ball. A sense of sharing. On some other boards there are debates about publically sharing some of the deals out there, whether we are talking about good meal deals, room rates or great deals on VP. There is a group who wishes, for their own reasons, to jealousy guard these secrets least they be revealed and the Casino revoke them. Here there seems to be no such problem with the idea that the vast majority of us here are here to have fun and enjoy life and part of that is passing on these "secrets" to fellow members. One thing we have learned, dont take a swallow of any beverage while reading some of the replies here, dangerous maneuver given the humor ever present waiting to trap the unwary! And maybe thats part of the fun here, no one takes this too seriously! Marc and Cathy |

Like most of us, I joined, over two years ago, for the newsletter, coupons and access to information about Vegas as a result of seeing shows on the Travel Channel. Little did I realize all the great people I'd meet on these Boards, then in person, and friendships that would result. I had no clue how much I'd laugh out loud while reading various threads. It's a good thing my home office is right near a restroom! Older ladies shouldn't laugh so hard! But don't stop the humor just because I have a weak bladder! Thanks to all for your honesty and willingness to share whatever you've experienced in Vegas that is of value to the group. And even the things that are of no value whatsoever! It's a joy and privilege to hang out with you all! Joan Southern California |

We found out about LVA from the LV travel bible, The Unofficial Guide, and we joined in late 1998 or early 1999. (That means members had about a two-year respite ‘til I started spouting off online.) We joined for the monthly newsletter, and then almost immediately realized what a truly great treasure we had in the POV. After the aforementioned delay I ambled into the forums and the rest is history. It’s all great, but like so many others I’d pay the bucks just for the forums. During our membership we’ve transitioned from big-eyed, aw-shucks Sin City neophytes to big-eyed, aw-shucks Sin City veterans, and from nonce-a-year to thrice-a-year to twelve-times-or-more-a-year visitors. The advice and lessons learned through the web content, newsletters, LVA Lite and forums are largely responsible for it all. (OK, our innate curiosity played a part.) During that time I’ve also transitioned from a corporate exec job to life as a freelance writer. So with most every visit to the boards and to Las Vegas I’m wearing two hats – Vegas junkie and writer. And because of my profession, my relationship with the good people who bring all of this to us has evolved into a business association, as well. However, I remain, without equivocation, an avid, satisfied customer and a member … in short, your typical LVAer. One thing I do want to play up is friendships. This is the only cyber community with which I interact, and as I work at home, pretty much at whatever hour of the day strikes me, I have a lot of time to spend with all of you. I feel that the Internet has been as much of a watershed in the development of “society” as most anything since speech emerged. Sure, television and mass media are omnipresent and insidious, but they build "brand" identity -- with a show, a personality, a product, even a lifestyle mode -- not community. The Internet has reaffirmed, or at least redefined, the sociological context of “village,” though it now has few literal bounds. Anyway, I really feel like I know so many of you, there are a few I hope I never get to know and several have become real-life, in-the-flesh friends, and I know more are to come. I read Berferds initial post but avoided this thread as a means of saving time because it grew fast in number of responses and words. We joined LVA to get the fantastic coupons and then I started to read and read and read... then I started asking questions. Well that is a deadly combination becuase you guys are full of information!!! We love to try new things and love to share our opinions and what a forum to do just that. In no certain order we found-Ellis Island root beer, "full pay", working the comp system, Center Stage, Mac King, MSS buffet, tipping the maids for extras, Dollar and the free upgrades, Ellis Island steak special, COUPONS, Golden Gate cookie girl, ziplocs to catch coins, hotel upgrades for asking nicely, icechests for sodas & water, Palms spa 50% off, buffets @ change over times, slot tournaments, El Sombrero, any question you can think of can be answered honestly and with many opinions you can take the one you like! I wouldn't trade it...

I was a regular Vegas visitor for at least three years before I subscribed to the LVA. My concern was that, as a monthly publication, the newsletter wasn't that timely and kind of expensive. The POV wasn't much of an incentive then, since I don't coupon much. But the time issue was solved by the message boards, which I didn't even know about, plus the addition of LVA Lite. I know I can usually get quick answer to my questions by posting here and the Lite really updates the newsletter well (I really miss Doug, though). The biggest benefit I didn't expect to receive was the discount for Huntington Press books. The GreatStuff4Gamblers site offers a good bargain every day for those quick enough to grab it and the pre-publication discounts and LVA discount have saved me more than $100 on books and items I would have bought at full price. I've never attended a member meet, can't understand how so many are able to tear themselves away from the gambling and other activities to follow a schedule, but I can understand how being with like-minded people is fun. Seems like another overlooked benefit. To me, the newsletter, POV and this board are easily worth double the price of a subscription. The book discounts and other values such as the free Stardust room in December have me swimming in gravy. Wish I would have been smarter sooner. |

Just thought I would let you guy know that this "Bearing your Testimonies of LVA" Has been noticed. The current Lva Lite has a link to the thread. Off subject anyone out there ever gamble in Wendover? I get free room offers quite often. But for me the drive there is about 300 mile round trip and Las Vegas is only 900 round trip. The only thing they have there is gambling. I am not much into that although using my first 2003 Pov I did use many of the free play and match play and came up a little ahead and counting the entertainment value more ahead. I guess what I am saying is that one trip to Las Vegas is much better than 3 tips to Wendover and use's the same amount of Gas. Maybe now I have read "The Frugal Gambler" I need to go check the viedo poker machine's in Wendover. |

Back in 1991 I was watching a Saturday afternoon travel show when I saw an ad to subscribe to the Las Vegas Advisor. I'd not yet made my first trip there but it sounded so interesting, I had to order it. Even though I can't go more than once or twice a year, I love reading about it. These message boards are more than I could have imagined. I've heard from so many great people and am forever grateful for their advice and suggestions. Because of them, it made my last visit the best ever. |

I've spent an awful lot of time in LV for 20+ years and have acquired a fair amount of budget-minded couponomy, but the Advisor was the best organized, most complete source of such info. When sports books began cutting back on comps, the Advisor steered me in the direction of positive-expectation video poker, with which I had been unfamiliar. Today, despite a modest vp budget, vp provides as many comps as the sports betting. The boards are excellent info sources. A brief familiarity with the Advisor basically outstrips 20 years of budget eating/room experience. And Travelaxe basically makes my old room-acquisition strategies anachronistic.

*sigh* Just came back from my trip to Vegas. I'm no big spender and purchased LVA for the POV so that my poor pal and I would be able to cash in on the great deals. Imagine my chagrin to have returned with my POV FULLY IN TACT. We were not able to use a single one of our coupons because we found that every single buffet listed in the book was off the strip where we were mainly limited to. We were going to use the coupon at the front for a cheap rate on a rental and discovered that they were all booked up for the week. We even bought a day pass for the bus and started to venture off the strip only to discover that the best values were clear into ANOTHER TOWN. Everything else in the book was beyond our reach or out of our price range. We didn't even use the coupon's for our own hotel (San Remo) because after eating one meal at their buffet we swore off ever eating there again! Values which we we did uncover were ones that didn't even need a coupon such as the Tropicana has a FABULOUS breakfast buffet for just $10. They also have a great free air show and a free slot pull. We went to Star Trek the experience and got a free souvenir photo where our heads were put into a picture with our favorite series characters just for filling out a credit card application. Sadly though, the LVA Phenomena was one of returning the POV seal unbroken for a refund. Renee |

If you joined the LVA solely for the POV then the LVA isn't for you since you visit Vegas once every several years. I go to Vegas roughly once a month and I only use 2-3 coupons from the LVA a year; running around town to try and save a buck here and there, not that there is anything wrong with that of course, isn't my style. If the POV was gone tomorrow I still would continue to subscribe to the LVA. For me, the newsletter alone is worth the money and I look at these forums and the POV as an added bonus. Check me into REHAB. ![]() ________________________________________________________ "Thanks for being a BIG part of this."ANTHONY CURTIS (03-01-05) "It was a GREAT call on your part." Renee I’m sorry you were disappointed by your LVA experience. I may be a little late with this to help you but others may find some of these facts a useful tool. I feel that the LVA is first and foremost about information. The money saving coupons are what many feel are an added bonus. Renee, you have been a member a short while and it appears you signed on just prior to going to Las Vegas. A few moments spent on the home page of the LVA without even becoming a member could identify the coupons available. A link to Casinos is also available that gives a basic guide to their location such as; Downtown, Strip, Henderson and so forth. A link is available to most of the casino web pages which give street addresses and descriptions of their best assets. There is a very basic map of Las Vegas that is by no means accurate to scale but offers enough visual info to locate many of the casinos. There are options available for non members to ask questions on the forum but I must admit that I personally don’t frequent that area very often. As a member almost any question about locations, transportation and favorite destinations get a response. There are shuttles that can take you to Sam’s Town on Boulder that use the Trop and San Remo as transfer locations. Many of the coupon runs people speak of can run up some mileage. Information is a powerful tool. I hope you and others who may have become discouraged stick around to share what negatives you experienced and share that knowledge with others. A big part of what is the LVA is a group of like minded individuals who enjoy Las Vegas and they love to share the good and the bad. We gain from our experience as well as that of others. Pixley Radio Announcer: “The grand prize is a trip to beautiful Las Vegas……..Illinois. Lisa Douglas: “I thought Las Vegas was in Utah” Oliver Douglas: “No, Nevada”. Renee, it's truly unfortunate that you didn't take the time to look into shuttles. As George mentioned, you could have shuttled to Sam's Town, for example. Or the Rio. Or the Orleans. Or, you could have taken a bus to downtown and used coupons in several places there. Or, you could have taken a shuttle to the Palms and used your 50% off coupon in a restaurant or the spa. $10 for a breakfast buffet at Tropicana??? No way would I pay that. Breakfast in Las Vegas doesn't need to cost that much. I understand from your trip report that you and your friends were not exactly sober during your trip (not that there's anything wrong with that Sue in North Las Vegas "You're never gonna see no unicorn."
